i002 is a site specific device that explores fluctuating spatial
conditions through the sonification of natural and artificial
light levels. As the piece slowly rotates around the perimeter
of the cylindrical room, an armature with embedded sensors
captures luminosity from three heights. Each of the three
sensors are assigned an audible frequency in which light
intensity controls the volume. As the armature scans the
room, the contrasting light and shadow within the space is
augmented by the corresponding tones, creating a rich
audio-visual environment. As the light conditions of the
space change throughout the day, the device produces a
pulsing, dynamic, generative soundscape.
